After an intense struggle by the workers, a salary increase was achieved for school cafeteria workers who belong to Local 2396 in Puerto Rico.

A minimum hourly wage of $11.89 for PSA 1 (cooks) and $12.75 for PSA 2 (managers) was implemented, which represents for some an additional increase of $3.00 to $4.09 per hour.

Countless efforts and activities were carried out to achieve this salary increase, including a meeting between UAW President Shawn Fain, Vice President Rich Boyer, and Regional Director Brandon Mancilla with the Federal Oversight Management Board, several rallies, lobbying, and a t-shirt day with all workers carrying messages demanding a salary increase in their respective workplaces.

These workers still have a long way to go like the ending of their collective bargaining agreement, but Local 2396 has already taken a great step forward to achieve long-awaited justice.
