Region 9A Education Fund
The Region 9A Education Fund is an independent non-profit union-employer trust that reimburses eligible members up to $1,000 per calendar year for education courses and programs. The Ed Fund is available to post-probationary members from participating units whose employers contribute to the Ed Fund pursuant to their Collective Bargaining Agreement. If your local or unit does not yet participate, you can bargain to include Ed Fund benefits in your next CBA.
Region 9A Worker Power Institute
The Region 9A Worker Power Institute consists of a series of trainings, conferences, programs, and workshops throughout the year designed to empower and equip UAW Region 9A members with the tools they need to take on their bosses on the shop floor, at the bargaining table and on the picket line.
Region 9A Workforce Training Center
The Region 9A Workforce Training Center provides technical training and education to UAW members in order to advance their career and professional goals at work. Funded by the Consortium for Worker Education, the Center offers night/weekend classes each year on different topics open to members and their families. In 2025, the Center will offer an LSAT prep course.
Walter & May Reuther Memorial Fund
The Walter & May Reuther Memorial Fund assists Region 9A members and leaders seeking to study labor relations. In the past, this fund has been used to send members to the Cornell Union Leadership Institute, among other programs.
Richard “Dik” Days Scholarship Fund
The Richard ‘Dik’ Days Scholarship Fund was created in memory of Richard Adam Days, who was a labor and civil rights educator for the UAW, by the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists (CBTU) Connecticut Chapter, UAW Region 9A, and the Days family. The scholarship provides two Connecticut graduating high school seniors or full-time undergraduate students with $2,000.

Black Lake Conferences and Opportunities
Each year, the UAW hosts over a dozen conferences at the UAW Walter & May Reuther Family Education Center at Black Lake in Onaway, Michigan, including our Young Workers Institute, Education Committees Conference, Community Service Conference, Leadership Essentials Institute, and more. Please contact your local leadership about participating in these educational events that occur throughout the year.
UAW Black Lake Family Scholarship Week
In addition to other opportunities, members with more than one year’s seniority have the ability to travel once per lifetime with their families to the UAW Walter & May Reuther Family Education Center at Black Lake in Onaway, Michigan, for the Family Scholarship program for a week of programming and recreation free of charge, and with most travel costs including flights covered by the UAW for members, their spouses/partners, and their children (over 4 years old).
