This month, Connecticut CAP members have testified twice at the Connecticut State Capitol in support of unemployment benefits for striking workers as well as increased funding for public higher education institutions.

On Thursday, February 13, UAW Local 405 president Ben Wilcox testified in support of allowing workers on strike to access the unemployment benefits program. Chaired by UAW's own Senator Julie Kushner, over 100 workers spoke in support of the bill. Ben's testimony last year supported the bill's passage through the Connecticut legislature, although it was ultimately vetoed by Governor Ned Lamont.

On Wednesday, February 19, members of UConn Graduate Employees United (UAW Local 6950) testified at a hearing on funding public higher education. Enrollment at UConn is at a record high, and Governor Lamont’s proposed budget cuts to public higher education will result in tuition hikes amidst program closures, service cuts, and faculty and staff layoffs. Thanks to Anika, Lincoln, Grace, Skyler, Sage, and Alex for fighting for the future of students, workers, and student workers in Connecticut!
