Hundreds of NYU Contract Faculty Strike Over Pay and Job Protections

Despite bargaining throughout the weekend to reach a fair contract—and even giving the administration a three-hour extension—Contract Faculty United at NYU are on strike as of 11 AM on Monday, March 23.
CFU-UAW represents about 950 non-tenure-track full-time contract faculty at NYU. While the NYU administration's latest proposals made some promising movement on some issues, they are not yet enough on core issues like compensation, especially decompression. They are also continuing to commit an unfair labor practice illegally refusing to bargain over housing benefits.
"We have always seen our campaign for a union and a fair contract as a fight not only about our working conditions, but about our students’ education, and about the future of NYU,” the CFU-UAW bargaining committee wrote. "We have been working tirelessly to reach a fair agreement for nearly 18 months. The NYU administration has chosen not to do the same."
