Region 9A continues its celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month with this acknowledgement of just a few of the most influential people in Puerto Rico.

Jorge Rodriguez, an international representative from Region 5, led a group of UAW volunteers who worked tirelessly in six cities on the island for two weeks: As one of the first volunteer groups to arrive in Puerto Rico, we witnessed firsthand the ravages of Hurricane Maria. It’s no exaggeration to say that this storm will leave scars on the island for many years to come.

Elimination of the tax exemption for tuition waivers is one more example of how the Trump/GOP tax bill hurts working people, students, and our institutions of higher education.  This tax exemption, which has existed for years with consistent university support, is sound policy that enhances accessibility, inclusiveness and excellence in teaching and research at our great institutions of higher education.
