Region 9A Civil & Human Rights Council
The Region 9A Civil & Human Rights Council promotes education and awareness, stands for diversity and inclusion, and fights for justice, equality, and equity within and beyond our union.
The mission of the UAW Region 9A Civil & Human Rights Council is to
- Challenge and educate on systemic oppression in all forms and intersections, including racism, sexism, colorism, ethnocentrism, sizeism, ageism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, and discrimination for being a member of an under-represented religious group;
- Support and uplift the voices of marginalized members who have experienced this oppression;
- Recognize that systemic oppression pervades all systems, affecting movements including environmental, health, and economic justice.
The Council encourages all UAW membership to incorporate this mission into the pillars of their work as a trade union—collective bargaining, contract enforcement, new member organizing, and legislative/political advocacy—with a goal of educating and engaging a more inclusive and diverse membership committed to affirming the dignity and improving the rights of all workers.
This work has been led and driven by rank and file member volunteers of UAW Region 9A. The Regional Civil & Human Rights Council is a committee dedicated to our efforts to promote education and awareness when we need to, stand for diversity and inclusion where we have to, and fight for justice, equality, and equity when and where we must.
