Region 9A Higher Ed Locals Stand in Solidarity with Cornell Campus Workers on Strike
After months of negotiations, over 1,000 UAW members walked out on strike last night at Cornell University, as the university has failed to present a fair package and has not bargained in good faith, stalling and retaliating against protected union activity by the workers.
With historic turnout, workers at Cornell University voted by 94% last week to authorize a strike during student move-in week if necessary. The contract covering more than 1,200 custodians, groundskeepers, cooks, food servers, greenhouse workers, gardeners, mechanics, and others expired on June 30.

In solidarity with Local 2300’s membership at Cornell, fellow higher education workers from Region 9A including Local 4100 (Mt. Sinai), Local 6950 (UConn), and Local 7902 (NYU & New School) are standing up to support their struggle.
The membership is facing declining real wages even as Cornell’s endowment has ballooned and tuition revenue has skyrocketed. UAW Local 2300 recently filed 7 separate ULP charges with the NLRB against Cornell, citing violations of workers' rights and federal labor laws amid ongoing contract negotiations.
