New York City Area CAP Council Endorses Three Pro-Labor Champions for Mayor: Brad Lander, Jessica Ramos, and Zohran Mamdani
New York, NY – Today, UAW Region 9A’s New York City Area CAP Council voted to endorse a slate of Brad Lander, Jessica Ramos, and Zohran Mamdani for Mayor of New York City.
“In 2021, 87% of New Yorkers voted for multiple candidates for mayor embracing ranked choice voting. Today, UAW Region 9A is endorsing three UAW champions for Mayor. Brad Lander, Jessica Ramos, and Zohran Mamdani are the UAW slate. We are confident that with any of the three of them as Mayor, working people will come first again,” said Brandon Mancilla, UAW Region 9A Director. The endorsement of these three champions came with an explicit instruction to not rank Eric Adams for Mayor.
The decision of the CAP Council culminates a two-month long democratic endorsement process where members and leaders deliberately created a framework for what to look for in a Mayor. They then reviewed questionnaires, candidate interview forums, and provided feedback to the council. The council then met today and voted unanimously to endorse this vision of a slate.
Over the last year, UAW Region 9A has led labor letters to the Mayor’s office pushing back on childcare cuts and 3k cuts and calling for funding of the Homes Now, Homes for Generations framework. Mancilla added, “Our members have been crushed by the Adams administration on affordability. Rents have skyrocketed under the Adams’ rent-guidelines board. Cuts to 3-K, libraries, and other services have harmed our members and all working class New Yorkers on a daily basis. I am proud of the CAP Council for leading the charge highlighting the need for a true UAW NYC slate.”
