UAW Endorses Our Member Carleigh Beriont for U.S Congress in New Hampshire

UAW Region 9A in New Hampshire is proud to announce our endorsement of UAW member Carleigh Beriont to represent New Hampshire’s 1st District in the U.S. Congress.
As a former member of UAW Local 5118 and current member of the Harvard Academic Workers-UAW organizing drive, Carleigh is the labor candidate in the NH-1 race. Carleigh has stood with graduate workers at the University of New Hampshire throughout their fight for a fair first contract.
UAW Region 9A represents a growing number of members in New Hampshire, including public sector workers in Nashua and Concord and the staff at the American Red Cross. Together, our members are part of a growing movement of working-class people demanding an economy that works for everyone—not just the wealthy few—and standing behind candidates who fight for dignity, fairness, and justice for all workers.

“UNH graduate workers have been fighting two years towards a fair first contract and a living wage. Carleigh’s strong background and experiences as a graduate labor organizer means she understands the power workers build when standing together,” said Tim Hoheneder, a leader of Graduate Employees United-UAW at the University of New Hampshire. “Carleigh reflects the commitment to collective power that graduate workers need from those seeking to represent New Hampshire.”
If elected, Carleigh said one of her top priorities will be passing the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act, legislation proposed to make union organizing easier, ban mandatory captive audience meetings, weaken state-level right-to-work laws, protect the right to strike, and increase penalties for employers that violate worker rights. She also has pledged to back a raise in the federal minimum wage, to co-sponsor the Medicare for All bill, and work towards a just and humane immigration system.
“My experiences as a union organizer taught me to never walk away from the table and demonstrated the value and power of solidarity,” she said. “I will bring those skills and the voices of working people with me to Washington.”
“UAW is proud to endorse Carleigh Beriont. As a former UAW member herself, Carleigh understands what it takes to fight for unions,” said Region 9A Director Brandon Mancilla. “She has stood with the UNH grad workers in their fight for a contract, and is committed to supporting new organizing in the state. Her commitment to passing Medicare for All makes her undeniably the right choice for New Hampshire this fall.”
