The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) recently announced that it was eliminating the Duration of Status policy for F-1 and J-1 visas as of September 15, 2026. This discriminatory policy change will cause disruptions to international students and scholars and will further complicate the visa renewal process. When this was proposed in 2025 by the Trump Administration, tens of thousands of organizations and individuals submitted comments in opposition including the International UAW and hundreds of UAW members. We are also currently exploring options to join legal challenges.
On Thursday, August 13, the UAW Higher Education Department is hosting a webinar to discuss how international workers can navigate the new F-1/J-1 policy and how we can continue organizing against these attacks.
