June is LGBTQIA2S+ Pride Month! Pride has always been a protest, and Pride Month honors and celebrates the organizing and activism of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersexual, Asexual, Two Spirit, and all people oppressed for their sexuality or gender identity/gender expression.

A union contract is still the strongest protection LGBTQIA2S+ working people have to fight employment discrimination. This month, we as UAW members renew our commitment to creating a world where everyone can live free from harassment and discrimination—because LGBTQIA2S+ rights are workers’ rights.

This Saturday, June 8, a record six unions will be marching in Boston’s Pride For The People parade. Eastern Massachusetts Pride at Work is inviting union members to march with them along with BTU, UNITE HERE Local 26, MTA, SAG-AFTRA, and IBEW 103. RSVP at bit.ly/bostonpride24.

On Sunday, June 30, join fellow UAW members in NYC at the sixth annual Queer Liberation March! The Reclaim Pride Coalition has organized the Queer Liberation March in New York City since 2019, seeking to honor and reclaim the spirit of the Stonewall Riots, centering and amplifying the voices and needs of marginalized LGBTQIA2S+ communities. RSVP at bit.ly/uawmarch24.

Finally, UAW Region 9A is seeking a member to represent our region in the LGBTQIA+ Caucus of the UAW National Advisory Council on Civil & Human Rights. If interested in serving in this role or getting involved with our region’s Civil & Human Rights Committee, contact us!
