Sheron Shapiro

Sheron is a rank and file member of Illinois Action for Children, a Chicago based organization that provides subsidized daycare to low income parents.   Born of a politically active family, one of her formative experiences occurred in 1985 when she was thrown out of a University of Chicago office alongside Bishop Desmond Tutu for protesting apartheid.

In 2017, Sheron became a core member of the local union’s “strike team” where she contributed to leadership’s historic effort to negotiate a new contract and secure the first wage increase in seven years.  Shortly after, she became a union steward, taking the lead on multiple grievances, and now serves as the Unit Treasurer.

Past and present careers/hobbies/gigs include; actor, musician, voiceover talent and writer.  She enjoys attending live musical and political events and is a staunch supporter of the Chicago chapter of the National Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression.
