Brothers & Sisters, it is with sadness I come to you with news that we lost a Healthcare Worker

from AFT Local 5123, to COVID-19 on 5-19-2020. Our sister union member wasn’t provided adequate PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) for the work she was assigned. The shortage of PPE puts workers at risk as the state begins to open, the shortage will affect more and more industries. Without proper protection the pandemic will linger longer and longer with more and more deaths occurring. We want our employer Yale New Haven Health to step up and protect their healthcare workers which wll in turn protect our community.

Four AFT Local unions are hosting a rally to bring attention to this issue with a demand for the Federal Government to step up and utilize the Defense Production Act to start manufacturing sufficient PPE. As well we want to hold all employers accountable to provide Safety, Protection & Respect in the workplace.

We invite you and your membership to join and participate in our Rally scheduled for May 30, 2020 Registration starts at 10:00 AM.  (See Flyer below)

We plan to also do a food drive for The United Way/ Gemma Moran Food Bank.

WE NEED LABOR TO MAKE STRONG SHOWING.

Thank you

Dale Cunningham, Sec/Treasurer Local 5049

For more than 45 years, the Family Education Center has been a place where UAW members and their families come together for an experience that combines education with recreation.

It’s a place to learn about our union, unlock ideas and build new friendships with other UAW families.

Detroit - “No one could ever anticipate the trauma and pain that Museum of Modern Art UAW members endured Saturday afternoon when they left their homes for work.  Thankfully, our injured members are in stable condition following the gruesome knife assault and a suspect is in custody.

Within the ranks of the UAW membership, our hearts go out to our injured members, their families and co-workers who all are victimized by this senseless and violent act.

Detroit - During the 2019 Collective Bargaining with Stellantis, the UAW bargaining team fought hard for an enhanced profit sharing formula that more fairly distributed profit earnings based on the company's unique structure. Today’s announcement that eligible UAW Stellantis members will receive an eligible profit sharing amount of $14,670 is a reflection of the hard work and dedication UAW members bring toward the success of Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge and RAM sales.

The Scholarship Committee is pleased to announce the availability of the 2023 Richard ‘Dik’ Days Scholarship application.

Detroit – “Through their negotiated contract, UAW members today received news that they will receive up to $10,250 in profit sharing. This benefit was achieved through collective bargaining and our UAW members have earned a share of the prosperity that their skill, hard work and dedication created. Our members should be proud during a challenging year at this achievement. We continue to talk to our local unions and General Motors about some of the unforeseen challenges UAW members faced this year.”
