UAW Local 1508 Ratifies Final Closing Agreement
On December 11, 2020, the members of UAW local 1508 in Green Island, New York, ratified a final closing agreement after Honeywell representatives notified employees in May of their plans to close the Green Island manufacturing facility and transfer all manufacturing to South Bend, Indiana by mid-2021.
Local 1508 leadership was vigilant in their efforts to secure the best outcome for their members during the seven months of negotiations. Although initial efforts to save the Green Island plant were unsuccessful, the members ultimately ratified a final closing agreement that includes severance pay, job placement assistance, special early retirement for eligible members, bidding, and transfer rights to South Bend, and moving expenses.
Honeywell claims that closing the plant is necessary to reduce costs and streamline operations to better serve their customers. The existing plant in Green Island has employed several generations of workers under various company names dating back to 1929. Love and solidarity to you, our union family.
