Full time position in UAW Region 9A New York City office located at 256 West 38th Street.  Position serves as receptionist and administrative assistant to Sub-Regional Director, Political Director, International Servicing Representative and two Organizers working in the NYC office.

Successful candidate should demonstrate willingness to be part of a team dedicated to building worker power and fighting for social justice.  Successful candidate must be proactive and willing to ask questions for direction and also have the ability to independently take initiative and problem solve.

Duties include but not limited to:

  • Answering phones and transferring to appropriate personnel;
  • Assisting and providing guidance to incoming callers as needed;
  • Maintain office calendar;
  •  Ordering office and kitchen supplies in a timely manner;
  • Interfacing with onsite building management and/or Assistant Director on office maintenance needs in a timely manner;
  • Preparing and organizing materials for meetings and conferences;
  • Create and maintain databases as needed;
  • Interface with local union leadership to ensure effective communication and servicing;
  • Participate actively in Region’s social media tasks and programs;
  • Assisting International Rep staff with tasks associated with successfully servicing and organizing members and implementing the region’s political program:

■     Editing and finalizing memos, making copies as needed, preparing ads for allies, reproducing campaign materials, organizing office logistics, supplies and other needs in preparation for rallies, events and activities

■     Scheduling meetings and calls with staff, leaders, legislators, politicians and more

■     Conference planning, development and implementation

■     Creating databases designed to streamline communication with elected officials quickly and efficiently

  • Good written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to prepare, edit and proof documents;
  • Good typing skills;
  • Experienced in database creation and management;
  • Knowledge of MS Office platform (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access);
  • Candidate must successfully pass MS Office test administered by a third party;

Position is available as of 1/7/2020 and is a bargaining unit position with OPEIU Local 494. Salary and benefits are competitive.
